NEW ALBANY, In. -- A southern Indiana legislator says a move would do a local casino some good.
State Representative Ed Clere (CLEER) says that he disagrees with Indiana Governor Mike Pence on the issue of moving Indiana's riverboat casinos on to land, saying it needs to happen for them to remain competitive. But then he takes the proposal a step further for Horseshoe Southern Indiana.
Clere says he believes the casino was never put in the right spot to begin with and says the perfect spot for it to be competitive would be in the former Colgate plant in Clarksville. He says the spot would put the casino on front and center if Kentucky ever legalized casino gambling and would revitalize the area of the currently empty plant.
He says the biggest obstacle would be ensuring that Harrison County would not lose out on the casino revenue it currently uses for numerous programs and projects.
