Amid Shutdown Obama, Biden Head Out For Food, On Foot

(Washington, DC)  --  President Obama and Vice President Biden are trying to call attention to the furlough of hundreds of thousands of government employees.  The two leaders walked out of the White House on foot en route to a nearby sandwich shop which is offering a 10 percent discount to furloughed employees.  The President said it's an example of how "ordinary Americans look out for each other" and are not "obsessed with politics."

Obama said the partial shutdown of the federal government could be over quickly if the Republican-led House would pass a clean budget extension.
Meantime, the President said "nobody is winning" as long as so many workers are furloughed.  That was a response to an anonymous quote from an administration official in the "Wall Street Journal" that the White House is "winning" the dispute with congressional Republicans.
