New York Uber Driver Allegedly Kidnapped Passenger

An Uber driver is accused of kidnapping and groping a female passenger.

According to court documents, 24-year-old Harbir Parmar picked up the unidentified woman in Manhattan back in February.  He was bringing the passenger to her home in White Plains when she fell asleep.

Parmar allegedly changed the destination of the ride in the Uber app to Boston and began driving north.  At some point, the woman claimed that she woke up and found the driver in the backseat with her.  She said his hand was under her shirt and was on her breast.

The passenger asked to be taken home or to a police station, but instead Parmar allegedly dumped her off on the side of I-95 in Connecticut.

“As alleged, Harbir Parmar was hired to transport a woman from Manhattan to her home in White Plains. Instead, Parmar kidnapped, terrorized, and assaulted the woman before dumping her on the side of an interstate,” U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Berman said.

Parmar is charged with one count of kidnapping and one count of wire fraud.  He was released on bond.

“No one – man or woman – should fear such an attack when they simply hire a car service,” Berman said.
