Greenland's Prime Minister Múte Bourup Egede has firmly rejected President Donald Trump's recent comments about acquiring Greenland, stating that "Greenland is ours." This declaration came after President Trump made a direct appeal to Greenlanders during a speech to Congress on Tuesday (March 4), suggesting that the United States would acquire Greenland "one way or another" for national security and economic benefits.

In his speech, President Trump emphasized the U.S. support for Greenland's right to self-determination but expressed a desire to integrate Greenland into the United States. Trump claimed that such a move would make Greenlanders rich and improve U.S. security.

Prime Minister Egede responded on Facebook, asserting that Greenland is not for sale and that its future will be decided by Greenlanders themselves.

“We don’t want to be Americans, nor Danes; we are Kalaallit. The Americans and their leader must understand that. We are not for sale and cannot simply be taken. Our future will be decided by us in Greenland," he wrote.

President Trump's comments have sparked renewed interest in Greenland's independence from Denmark, especially with parliamentary elections approaching on March 11.
