President Donald Trump claimed former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev was in "dangerous territory" when he publicly threatened the United States' deadline for a ceasefire in Ukraine as being "a step towards war."
“Tell Medvedev, the failed former President of Russia, who thinks he’s still President, to watch his words. He’s entering very dangerous territory!” Trump wrote on his Truth Social account early Thursday (July 31) morning, referencing Medvedev, the top ally of current Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Trump had previously announced his plans to reduce his 50-day deadline for Putin to end his war with Ukraine to 10 to 12 days ahead of Monday's (July 28) meeting with United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer in Scotland. Medvedev, 59, Russia's Security Council deputy chairman who was previously the country's president from 2008 and 2012 between two of Putin's terms, responded by claiming the U.S. could be heading toward a war with Russia if Trump continued to publicly push for a ceasefire.
“Trump’s playing the ultimatum game with Russia: 50 days or 10 … He should remember 2 things: 1. Russia isn’t Israel or even Iran. 2. Each new ultimatum is a threat and a step towards war,” Medvedev wrote on his X account Monday.
Trump also invoked India in his Truth Social response, which came hours after he imposed a 25% tariff plus "penalty" set to go into effect on August 1.
“I don’t care what India does with Russia. They can take their dead economies down together, for all I care. We have done very little business with India, their Tariffs are too high, among the highest in the World,” Trump wrote.
“Likewise, Russia and the USA do almost no business together. Let’s keep it that way,” he added.
