New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani believes that democratic socialists can be elected anywhere in the United States. Speaking on ABC's "This Week," Mamdani expressed confidence in the national appeal of his political message after three candidates he endorsed—Claire Valdez, Darializa Avila Chevalier, and Brad Lander—won their primary congressional races in New York. Mamdani emphasized that the hunger for a new kind of politics is felt by Americans from coast to coast.

Mamdani stated, "I think a democratic socialist can get elected anywhere across this country for any position." He highlighted the issues of affordability for rent, groceries, and childcare as central to the concerns of working people nationwide. Despite some Democrats downplaying the significance of these victories outside New York, Mamdani insisted that his message is already a national one.

According to ABC News, Mamdani's focus remains on the candidates he has endorsed, rather than expanding his influence beyond New York. He believes that the victories of Valdez, Avila Chevalier, and Lander reflect a broader desire for politics that prioritize working people.

However, some Democrats and Republicans have expressed concern over the perceived radicalization of the party. Mamdani defended his stance, stating that democratic socialism is pragmatic, aiming to deliver tangible benefits for working people. He argued that the Democratic Party should let voters lead on issues like military aid to Israel and focus on equal rights for all people.

Mamdani's success has sparked debate within the Democratic Party, with some fearing it could impact the party's chances in the upcoming elections. Nonetheless, Mamdani remains committed to his vision of a party that stands firmly for working people.
