Iranian Forces Seize British Oil Tanker In The Strait of Hormuz

Iranian Navy boats take part in maneuver

Iran says it has seized a British oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran's Revolutionary Guard (IRG) says the oil tanker Stena Impero was captured for "violating international regulations."

"On Friday a British tanker by the name of Stena Impero while passing through the Strait of (Hormuz) was seized by the IRGC due to violating international regulations," the IRG announced in a statement. "After it was seized it was transferred to Iranian shores to undergo legal procedure."

They did not elaborate on what those violations were or what they plan to do with the vessel.

The owner and ship manager for the Stena Impero say there are 23 crew members aboard and that no injuries have been reported.

It is the second time in the past week that Iran has seized a tanker in the Strait of Hormuz. The seizure comes one day after President Donald Trump said that U.S. forces shot down an Iranian drone that was flying too close to the USS Boxer.

U.S. officials are also reporting that Iran seized a second tanker that was flying under the Liberian flag shortly after taking control of the Stena Impero.
