Disease Management in Home Strawberry Plantings

Recently, OSU's State Fruit Pathologist and Fresh Produce Safety Specialist, Melanie Ivy, posted a guide for Disease Management in Home Strawberry Plantings. The resource is available on the web, and you will also see guides for home apple and grape disease management as well.

All three guides can be found at: https://u.osu.edu/fruitpathology/home-disease-management-series/

The Disease Management in Home Strawberry Plantings includes the following highlights: Site Selection and Preparation; Variety Selection; Mulching; Sanitation; Synthetic Chemicals; and Biopesticides.

 Diseases covered include:

  • Fruit Rots: Botrytis Gray Mold; Leather Rot; and Anthracnose Fruit Rot
  • Leaf Diseases: Angular Leaf Spot; Leaf Scorch; Leaf Blight; Neopestalotiopsis Disease; and Powdery Mildew
  • Crown and Root Diseases: Black Root Rot; Phytophthora Crown and Root Rot; Verticillium Wilt; and Anthracnose Crown Rot
  • Common Injuries: Tip Burn (Calcium Deficiency); Cold Injury; Poor Pollination; and Herbicide Injury

If you are growing strawberries in your garden, you don't want to miss this resource. And don't forget, there are two other guides that covers apples and grapes diseases too.
