Senate Expected To Move Quickly On Massive Stimulus Today

Congress Works Toward Coronavirus Stimulus Bill

The Senate is expected to move quickly today to approve a massive economic stimulus package. Senate Minority Whip Dick Durbin says the negotiation process was essential.

The White House and congressional leaders struck a deal overnight on the roughly two trillion dollar bill.

The bipartisan measure is a response to the economic fallout from the growing coronavirus crisis. After clearing the Senate, the bill goes directly to the House. Speaker Nancy Pelosi praised the Senate's efforts and said House leaders will be reviewing it.

Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin told reporters that President Trump will sign the bill once it clears both chambers of Congress. Mnuchin was intimately involved in the negotiations with congressional leaders.
