Kansas City Votes To Remove Martin Luther King Jr. From Historic Street

On Tuesday, residents of Kansas City, MO voted to remove Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s name from a historic street.

Back in January, the city council changed the name of the 10-mile street known as The Paseo to Martin Luther King Boulevard. A group of residents then launched a petition campaign called "Save The Paseo" to put the name change on the Nov. 5th ballot.

Some accused the campaign of being racist, calling the street a "powerful symbol" for black residents. Supporters say The Paseo should be preserved as a historic landmark and that another street should be named for Dr. King.

On Tuesday, voters approved reverting the name to The Paseo by a 70-30 margin.
